In a major leadership overhaul, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named experienced wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das as the new captain of the national One Day International (ODI) team. The decision comes as Bangladesh turns its focus toward building a cohesive squad for the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.
With this appointment, the 31-year-old now takes complete charge of Bangladesh’s white-ball setups, having already served as the team’s T20I skipper.
Leadership Shift After Series Defeat
Litton succeeds all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who had been leading the 50-over side since June 2025. During his tenure, Miraz captained Bangladesh in 20 ODIs, securing 10 wins and suffering 9 defeats. However, a recent 1-2 series defeat against Zimbabwe prompted the board to rethink its leadership hierarchy and streamline white-ball strategy under a single captain.

Litton Das’ Leadership Record
While this marks Litton's first official full-time assignment as ODI captain, he is no stranger to the responsibility:
- Stand-in Captaincy: Litton has previously captained Bangladesh in 7 ODIs on a stand-in basis, securing 3 victories.
- White-Ball Alignment: Unifying the ODI and T20I leadership under Litton is designed to create tactical consistency across both limited-overs formats.
- International Experience: Since making his debut in 2015, Litton has scored over 2,800 runs in 104 ODIs, including five centuries, with a career-best individual score of 176.
Looking Ahead to World Cup 2027
The primary objective for the BCB is long-term stability. With the 2027 World Cup cycle underway, Litton's immediate focus will be settling the playing XI and building depth in both the top order and bowling department.
The new captain’s first major challenge in charge will be Bangladesh's upcoming home bilateral series against India, set for September.
